Requirements of San Mar Respite Care Providers

The San Mar Respite Care Providers must comply with all relevant regulations as specified in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR). These include:

  • At least 21 years of age
  • Washington County, Maryland resident(s)
  • Four written references
  • Criminal background investigations on all persons over the age of 18 living in the home
  • Child Protective Services background investigations on all persons over the age of 18 living in the home
  • Physical examination (including tuberculosis test) of each family member prior to certification and every two years thereafter
  • Fire Marshal inspection of home (pre-service, any time you move to a new residence, and when there appears to be a dangerous situation)
  • Environmental Health Approval of water and septic systems annually
  • Proof of marriage or divorce status
  • Proof of home insurance
  • Proof of auto insurance
  • Proof of current vaccines for all pets
  • Reliable vehicle and telephone
  • Separate bedroom for respite care child
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • 24 hours of approved pre-service training (both parents)
  • 20 hours of approved training annually (both parents)
  • Non-Certified Copy of driving record
